- James Bonning holds decades of operational intelligence, security and management experience, providing subject matter expertise in the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) domain, with a recent focus on simulation and complex scenario development. His previous positions include private-sector manager, Air Force Squadron Leader, Intelligence Agency Liaison Officer, Commando, and Communication and Security Officer.
- James possesses a unique set of global experiences, gained from managing teams in the private and public sectors within Australia, Germany and Canada. His employment history includes roles with the Australian Air Force, Qantas Airlines, the Australian Army, Deakin University, YWCA, TNT International, and the Australian Signals Directorate. James is an excellent communicator and creative problem solver with an outstanding track record of leading high-performance teams.
- With seven-years’ experience Planning & Controlling Air Force Exercises in the Live, Synthetic and Constructive domains, James Bonning is an expert in developing realistic and complex road-to-war documents and scenarios. This includes providing full tactical integration and Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace briefs that cover the detail required to support next-generation warfare.
- James Bonning has acted as a C4-ISR Subject Matter Expert for Intelligence Officer operational training and tactical support subjects. He has worked with senior military staff to ensure complex scenarios align with both the Commander’s intent and the training audiences Desired Learning Outcomes (DLOs).
- James is a passionate and caring leader, with an extensive background in achieving difficult tasks regardless of the environment. With professional expertise in Signals, Counter Terrorism, Air Warfare Tactics, ISREW operations, All-Source Assessment and Mission Intelligence. As ex-Special Forces and an Air Force Squadron Leader, James is an experienced military officer with a proven work history in the management of Intelligence Analysis, Security, Non-Kinetic Effects, Risk Assessment, and Threat Mitigation. His last position in the Permanent Air Force saw him as Intelligence Officer in Charge of Cyber Warfare, Tactics and Training in the Air Warfare Centre's 88 Squadron.
- James Bonning's military experience includes operational deployments as an Intelligence Flight Commander in the Middle East, Intelligence Agency Liaison Officer in Afghanistan and as a member of the Special Forces in South-East Asia. He was formerly employed in Signals Intelligence, Counter Terrorism, Special Operations, Cyber Security, and Air Combat Intelligence.
- With a background in Strategic Studies and National Security, James Bonning remains active in the Air Forces Reserves. He holds Undergraduate and Masters degrees in related fields. He is a former Green Beret, a Black-Belt Kenpō Karate instructor, speaks fluent German, has authored an instructional chess book, and is a competitive chess player.

- - OPERATION SLIPPER – 2010 and 2011 as the Australian Signals Directorate Liaison Officer to Special Operation Task Group (TF-66), where he was deployed to Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan as a ISR specialist focused on Finding and Fixing enemy locations.

Steven Booth has over two decades of command and control (C2) experience in tactical and operational level environments with the Royal Australian Air Force and the United States Marine Corps. With employment roles in training, test and evaluation, projects, and team management, Steven has a proven history of delivering exceptional results to satisfy desired outcomes.
Steven provides specialist support to the Australian Defence Force as an exercise control specialist where he designs , plans and executes large force exercises in the live, synthetic and constructive domains. Steven developed scenarios with realistic ground force schemes of manoeuvre adding the richness of the training environment. Steven remains active in the Air Forces Reserves.
With his extensive experience managing and employing integrated and networked sensors, effectors and communication systems, Steven Booth has worked with senior military staff to develop Integrated Air and Missile Defence courseware and a range of training products for Air and Space Operations Centre personnel. Steven’s practical knowledge and experience with these capabilities added value to future force planning and concepts of employment.

Steven is a distinguished graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School run by the United States Marine Corps, an honour graduate of the United States Air Force Strategy Division course for Air and Space Operation specialists, a United States Navy recognised Amphibious Operations Staff Planner, and Royal Canadian Air Force trained Airpower Operations specialist.
As an operations specialist, Steven Booth has provided valuable contributions to the design, development, testing and evaluation of military capabilities for Australian and foreign Departments of Defence. Steven's ability to work cohesively with others is the cornerstone for his ability to provide valuable contributions and solutions to complex problems. Steven Booth has a profound understanding of air-land/surface integration, airspace management, air traffic control operations, C4I, project management, logistics, military tactics and operational planning. Leveraging his interpersonal skills, effective communication style and ability to resolve issues with a proactive mindset, Steven has led numerous sovereign and international projects.
As an Air Force Squadron Leader and Flight Commander, Steven was responsible for the provision of Air Traffic Control services at RAAF Base Tindal and managed and maintained Air Traffic Control assets and facilities. Between 2018 and 2020, Steven served as an Exchange Officer to the United States Marine Corps. Steven was the Assistant Operations Officer for Marine Air Control Group 38.
Steven Booth was heavily involved in the Design, Execution and Assessment phases of newly developed training at a senior level for more than 25 exercises. He also successfully negotiated USMC to be the core unit within the AOC for Red Flag 19-3, and was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his action.
As an Air Traffic Controller, Steven attained the highest proficiency level possible. He was OIC of the Mobile Air Coordination Center (MACE) for five years, coordinating airspace C4I for six domestic exercises and two international LFEs.
